NHS Grampian – Stonehaven Renal Unit

The Approach

Over the past five years a huge fundraising effort by the people and businesses in and around Stonehaven raised £1million to cover the start up costs, including building and equipping the six-bed unit.

NHS Grampian was looking for six new dialysis chairs that would provide their patients with comfort and support while sitting for long hours of treatment.

As a trusted local supplier, and with NHS Supply Chain framework accreditation, Ocura were invited to trial a therapy chair in the main Renal Outpatients Department at Aberdeen Royal Infirmary.

Ocura felt the Verona therapy chair would perfectly suit the needs of the new unit and feedback from patients and staff during the two week trial was extremely positive, with patients commenting on the ease of use and comfort.

The wide range of adjustments on the remote handset also went down well with patient and staff, allowing for optimum comfort to be achieved during treatment.

The Outcome

Ocura were also asked to carry out further trials at NHS Grampian’s four existing satellite dialysis units, with the chair proving very popular there too.

The Verona is now the NHS Board’s chair of choice for all renal dialysis units going forward and Ocura will continue to work in partnership with the trust to improve healthcare environments and make a difference to the lives of patients and staff.

In the latest development, NHS Orkney have now collaborated with NHS Grampian to place a joint order for chairs, as having heard the great feedback from patients and staff they made the decision to install Verona chairs in their flagship new Hospital and Healthcare Facility in Kirkwall, Orkney.

The new Renal Unit was built in development with CHAP Construction Group.
